Girl Power!!!

Gamer Girls and female gamers aren’t unheard of but they are certainly not spoken of regularly enough. She is likened unto the Hardest to earn +12 fully socketed gear that requires you to grind the highest level boss that has a .001% drop rate. Even so, they are usually resigned to menial roles such as “Healers” or “Medics”(not that they do poorly or the roles are unimportant) usually because they are thought to be either less capable or uninterested in gaming in general.
That being said, they have shown to have as much enthusiasm (if not more at times) and commitment to their games of choice. Their skill are unparalleled and are usually comparable to the best in their field. As a matter of fact, some of the most aggressive players are females withing the genres of MMO-RPGs (Mass Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) such as Tera, Guild Wars 2 and the ever beloved World of Warcraft, and in MOBAs (Mass Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas) such as DoTA 2, League of Legends, Smite, Paladins and Battlerite.

So in light of the Inauguration of the First Female President of The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency, the Honorable Paula-Mae Weeks, we would like to tip out helmets and raise our fists and our weapons to two of T&T’s Gamer Women.

The Gaming Association of Trinidad and Tobago’s First Female Chairwoman: CrimsonSnowAngel

Above- Kaichō of GATT: CrimsonSnowAngel

The first game changer came in the election of the first Chairwoman of GATT, Kaichō CrimsonSnowAngel. After about 6 months of membership, she decided to take a crack at the top spot after showing her willingness to take the bull by the horns in events as a member of the admin staff. She won the polls decisively in January and currently leads the charge of improving the NGO. Though shy looking, she uses it to her advantage to cajole her team into get the results she wants. She is quite artistic, fun-loving, jovial, always up for a challenge and quite optimistic. These, coupled with her strong, can-do attitude have already begun to infect her team, pushing them forward.

We can’t but hope to see the levels she is going to push her peers to in the upcoming months.

The “Baddest Man in TT” Tekken 7 Champion: Shivana

Known only as Shivana to us, she has already made a big splash in our eyes. Gaming from her youth with her two brothers, Videsh and Greedy, she explained that she enjoyed just playing for fun. She entered several tournaments, (Five if memory serves me right), each time improving her ranking (placing 3rd in the last tournament she entered). We met her at Bokie and BeastPrime’s: Baddest Man in TT Tekken 7. Her shy and modest deportment is quite the deceptive first impression of her and talent since she went through the tournament with a near perfect sheet, losing only one game in the finals against Carter(FGM), playing as the character Asuka Kazama. We hope that she continues to hone her skills as she studies at UWI and maybe, someday, even make it to the world stage in Tekken.

As the year progresses, we hope to see more women show their skill in upcoming events and keep making themselves known in the community as a strong powerful presence that are a force to be reckoned with.
